When it comes to the environment Perfect is committed to our environmental compliance, sustainability is a key pillar in our core values and is engrained in everything we do.
Operating in the demolition and decommissioning space affords Perfect the unique opportunity to commit to recycling as much of our client's waste as possible. Not only for the financial benefits, but because we want to make a substantial difference to the environment for future generations to come.
All Perfect group divisions hold ISO 14001, Environmental Management System certifications which are independently audited by Sustainable Certification Pty Ltd
Environmental Impact and Waste Reduction
Construction and demolition produce one of the largest waste streams in Australia. Perfect Group works at both ends of it, taking structures apart and keeping structures alive, so our approach has to cover both.
Assessment comes before anything else
Nearly every environmental failure traces back to something nobody investigated early enough
Across every division, work starts with finding out what is actually there. Hazardous material surveys, waste classification of soil to be disturbed, coating testing on older structures, services searches, and an assessment of what can be recovered or retained.
That pre-work decides the cost, the programme and the risk on a project. A structure holding friable asbestos, a slab on contaminated fill, or a bridge coated in lead based paint changes the whole job, and it is far better found in a report than in week three.
Hazardous material stays in house
Asbestos including friable, contaminated soil, lead affected material, hydrocarbons and underground storage tanks are handled under our own licences rather than subcontracted. One chain of custody, one set of documentation, and no gap between two parties each assuming the other holds the paperwork.
Classification is where the real risk sits
Every load leaving a site has to be classified correctly, carried by a licensed transporter and received by a licensed facility. General solid, restricted solid, hazardous and asbestos waste each carry their own rules and costs.
Pushing a marginal load into a cheaper classification is a liability that outlives the project, because the regulator holds the generator of the waste responsible, and that is the client. No division of this group does it, whatever the programme pressure.
Controls on site
Dust suppression and on tool extraction, silica controls wherever concrete is cut or broken, containment on blasting and coating removal, noise and vibration monitored where a consent requires it, drains protected and sediment controlled before work starts, and no discharge to stormwater. On work over water, catchment and washdown collection are designed into the method rather than added as a checklist item.
Reporting, and the people around the job
Waste dockets, receiving facility receipts, monitoring results, incident records and validation reporting are produced as the work runs and formatted to fit the client's project management plan where one exists.
Beyond the paperwork are the people who live and work around our sites and had no say in it. Truck routes away from schools and residential streets where possible, work inside approved hours, streets swept, hoardings maintained, and somebody who will answer the phone. A complaint that reaches council costs weeks, so this is practical as well as decent.
Sustainable Practices Across the Group
Perfect Group covers demolition, civil, strip out, concrete care, remediation, specialist cutting and labour hire. Those divisions have genuinely different environmental profiles, and a single policy that pretends otherwise is not much use to anybody.
This page is about how it actually works across the group, and each division sets out its own version in more detail.
Two different jobs, two different levers
On the demolition and strip out side, the lever is material recovery. Buildings come apart and thousands of tonnes of concrete, steel, brick and fitout material have to go somewhere. Sequencing the deconstruction so the streams stay clean is what decides whether that material is recycled or buried.
On the remediation and concrete care side, the lever is the opposite. Every structure repaired is a structure not demolished and rebuilt, and none of the embodied carbon already spent on it has to be spent again. Concrete repair, cathodic protection and carbon fibre strengthening are among the lowest impact things this industry does.
One set of licences, one chain of custody
Hazardous material is where the group structure earns its keep. Asbestos including friable, contaminated soil, lead affected material and hydrocarbons are handled in house under our own licences rather than passed to a third party. That keeps the chain of custody unbroken and removes the gap where two contractors each assume the other holds the paperwork.
The same standards on every job
Our management systems cover quality, safety and environment across every division, so a client working with two Perfect businesses on the same project gets one standard rather than two.
That matters on a large project where the head contractor has to reconcile everybody's documentation. Waste classification, transport dockets, receiving facility receipts, monitoring records and validation reporting come out in a consistent form, produced as the work runs rather than assembled at the end.
What we are not going to claim
We are not going to tell you this is a green industry. Construction and demolition are among the largest waste streams in the country and no policy page changes that.
What we can control is how much material comes back as material, how hazardous waste is handled, and whether the reporting you get is real. Those are the three things we hold every division to.
We would rather publish that than a recycling percentage nobody has measured. When the group can report figures calculated from actual dockets across a full year, we will put them here.
Where We Are Taking This
Four things, written plainly, so that anyone can come back in a year and check whether they moved.
Get in earlier on projects
The biggest environmental decisions on a project are made before our divisions arrive, in the sequence, the methodology and the choice between repair and replacement. Early contractor involvement is where we can change the outcome rather than work around a programme already locked. That is the single most useful goal on this page.
One set of measured numbers across the group
Each division can produce dockets for every load. What the group cannot yet do is roll that up across a year by material and by division and show a trend. We are building that, and until it exists we are not publishing a headline recycling figure, because it would be an estimate and everybody in this industry knows what those are worth.
Keep training our own people
More supervisors, site managers and applicators coming up through our own crews with their tickets paid for. It is slower than recruiting finished people and it is the only thing that lets the group staff the work it wins.
Publish what did not work
If a goal here has not moved in twelve months, we would rather say so than quietly reword it.
A page like this is only worth anything if it can be checked, and that means being willing to report the things that went nowhere alongside the things that worked.
Perfect Group acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Traditional Custodians of the country on which we live and work. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians and Elders past, present and future, and honour their connection to the land and ongoing contribution to society.
