Perfect Contracting completed demolition works at Wiley Park station as part of the Sydney Metro expansion project.
Initially, the project had a two-week timeline, but that was reduced to just seven days due to additional work.
The scope of work for this project involved:
- Removal/disposal of ACM street level station buildings;
- Removal of both platforms, each approx. 200m in length and 3.6m in width;
- Excavation, load out and trimming to a final height X.Xm below the existing platform;
- Removal of friable asbestos;
- Loading out 5000 metric tons of spoil and disposal;
- Transport, tipping and stockpiling of spoil.
Our services were offered round-the-clock access and were operated in all weather conditions, including rain, fog, hail, and snow. Excavation work was carried out using machines no larger than 24 tons and used the rail corridor to remove the spoil.
The equipment list included a Volvo 35t excavator, a Volvo 24t excavator, two Volvo 14t excavators, a Caterpillar 950 wheel loader, a Kobelco 15t excavator, a Komatsu 15t excavator, a Case 8t knuckle-boom excavator, a Kubota 5.5t excavator, eight standard Hydremas, four hi-rail spec Hydremas, an Isuzu 10-wheel tri-axle tipper, and an Isuzu 8-wheel hook truck with a 18m3 skip.
There were a couple of surprises – along the platform about every 2 metres was a buried length of the disused rail line and 1.8t solid concrete blocks – one buried under each platform and one hundred tonnes of asbestos. The Perfect friable asbestos team removed the asbestos-containing material (ACM) under friable conditions.
